Off-line filtration

Off-line filtration

The off-line filtration is often the only effective option for keeping hydraulic fluids at a certain purity level. In the off-line circuit, a circulation pump is combined with a correspondingly sized filter and the oil is circulated under constant conditions irrespective of the flow rate in the overall system. These off-line filters also work if there is absolutely no oil being pumped in the main system. The product line includes small compact standard units as well as subsystems arranged according to customer specifications.

FAQ: Off-line filtration

  • What are the advantages of off-line filtrations?

Whether off-line filtration is essential or simply a beneficial option depends on the system design. Hydraulic systems with variable-displacement pumps often do not generate sufficient oil circulation to maintain the required cleanliness class through an in-line working filter alone. In such cases, the installation of an off-line filter is strongly recommended.

A off-line filtration system is also an attractive alternative to an integrated working filter whenever an external cooling circuit represents the optimal solution. In this configuration, the working filter can be designed without the size limitations imposed by operating pressure, which would require expensive pressure-resistant filter housings, or by high flow rates, which would require even larger and more costly filter housings. Instead, a low-pressure housing with the largest possible filter surface area can be used. For further information, see the sections Filter Monitoring and Off-line filters/coolers.

  • In which configurations does Bühler Technologies offer off-line filters?

Standard-sized bypass filters with DIN filter elements are available in two sizes and are supplied as mounting plates. Off-line filters with freely selectable dimensions can be configured according to customer requirements. All combinations are preferably equipped with quiet-running Bühler Technologies gerotor pumps.
